Trust Ray & Son Heating & Air Conditioning for Toilet Installation

Toilets are typically quite durable and with regular maintenance, can operate reliably for twenty or thirty years. However, there are parts of the toilet that will most likely need to be replaced sooner. Depending on what’s wrong, it may be more cost-effective and beneficial to update. Ray & Son Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to put our plumbing experience and expertise to work for you and help you decide the right time to consider a new toilet.

Signs your toilet needs to be replaced include:

  • Constant repairs
  • Frequent clogging
  • Cracks in the porcelain
  • Unsatisfactory flushing
  • Surface damage.
  • Mineral deposit buildup
  • It’s an older model

What to look for in a new toilet:

  • Layout of the space – It’s easiest to install the new toilet in the same position as the old one. However, if you’re making changes, it’s essential to factor in the size of the room, placement of the sink, shower, tub, and any obstructions. The toilet should be easily accessible but not in the way and be at least 15 inches from the wall, vanity, or any object.
  • Size – Measure the existing toilet to get a better understanding of the size that works for the room. You don’t necessarily need to pick out a toilet that provides the exact same dimensions. The fixture should fit comfortably. Toilets are designed for “rough-in” dimensions and are sold in 10, 12, and 14-inch sizes. Measure from the wall to the center of toilet bolts at floor level to figure out the rough-in toilet size that will work for you. While you want the tank positioned close to the wall, most covers include a lip at the back that will require a ¼” of clearance.
  • Flush styles – Single-flush toilets empty the entire tank in one flush. Dual-flush toilets reduce water use with a two-stage option that allows for a light flush or a full flush. Touchless-flush toilets are usually single-flush and include a battery-powered electronic sensor that provides flushing without needing to touch the toilet.
  • Toilet style – Options for size, flush style, color, bowl types, and more are available. One-piece toilets integrate the tank and bowl into one unit to save space and minimize the chance of leaks. Two-piece toilets are the most common, consist of a toilet bowl and tank, and are more affordable. High-tank toilets are similar to a two-piece option but are installed high up on a wall rather than secured to the bowl. In-wall toilets offer a modern, streamlined profile. The toilet can be tankless or the tank concealed inside the wall for space conservation. Integrated bases can be one- or two-piece models. The bottom of the toilet eliminates the dust-catching nooks and crannies.
  • Cost – The prices of toilets vary quite a bit. Those with heated seats, bidets, smart settings, and other features are more expensive. No matter your budget, Ray & Son Heating & Air Conditioning finds an ideal model within your price range.
