If you have concerns, call our NATE-certified technicians for a checkup
Kids are back in school in Nashville and Valdosta-area schools, where another summer has come and gone. Here in southern Georgia and northern Florida, however, summer weather lasts rather longer. Will your air conditioner last, too? If you have concerns, there are a few tactics you can use to extend its lifespan for another season.
Adjust Your Air Conditioner Settings
If fewer people are in your house during the day, you can raise the temperature on your thermostat. There’s no point in setting your air conditioner to 73 degrees, if no one is there for six or more hours each day. Instead, raise the temperature to 78 or 80 degrees. This prevents your air conditioner from overworking. If you have ceiling fans, use them to create more airflow. An Energy Star-rated fan allows you to raise your thermostat to 80 or 82, remaining comfortable while saving money.
If you have a programmable thermostat, now is the time to take advantage of it. Still using a manual dial version? Let Ray & Son teach you about your modern thermostat options. We’ll install it and show you how to use it for the greatest benefits for you and your family.

Service Your Air Conditioner for the Longest Useful Life
Regular maintenance pays off big. As part of the tune-up process, one of our NATE-certified technicians performs a 17-point checklist. He or she inspects and tests all components. If excessive wear and tear is identified, he or she investigates for the root cause.
If a repair is needed, your technician will present you with multiple solutions. As part of the tune-up, the technician also cleans and lubricates all applicable components. He or she verifies all belts are secure, and electrical switches operate properly.
He or she will also inspect for signs of mold or excessive debris, such as dust or pet dander. Mold in your HVAC system is not good for your air quality. In our southern climate, mold is always a concern because of the ongoing humidity. Be proactive, and prevent or eliminate this allergy and asthma trigger.
In addition, many kinds of contaminants in your HVAC system can compromise the airflow. Dust, pet dander, pollen and other debris affect your air conditioner’s efficiency, which ultimately affects your energy bill.
